Laid Off Calgary Session

Laid Off Calgary was founded voluntarily in January 2016 by Bianca Sinclair who decided to bring together her interests in psychology and mindfulness and skills as a facilitator, listener, connector and yoga teacher. Laid Off Calgary in person meetings and online group has served over 1000 individuals and continues to be supported by career and executive coaches, social workers, psychologists, recruiters and other for-profit and non-profit organizations - all with a big heart and the goal of sharing resources and psycho-social and job searching support during this downturn.

In this 90 minute Laid Off Calgary meeting hosted at ResourceYYC you will:

  •          Have the opportunity to talk about your current challenges and gain new perspectives

  •          Listen to others and have mutual support during this transition

  •          Discuss stress management and self-care strategies

  •          Identify a schedule for using your day and week in a strategic way to support your goals

  •          Keep motivation for job search and networking

Enerfox Book Launch and Virtual Tour

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) are used to create high-resolution video, orthomosaic images and three-dimensional models for the McMurray Formation type section (near the city of Ft. 3-D Understaning of Oil Sands Reservoirs

A three-dimensional understanding of the McMurray Formation oil sands reservoirs provides an opportunity to optimize production for SAGD thermal operations.  Meeting new economic and environmental hurdles begins with characterizing the reservoir and understanding how geology controls production. 4k video and comprehensive 3-d models created with the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) are particularly effective since most outcrop exposures are steep, inaccessible and remote.

Optimizing In-Situ Oil Sands Recovery

Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) operations utilize a three-way strategy that targets production from the steam chamber, conductive heating, and infill wells which has led to a strong impact on SAGD performance and recovery factors.  A study of approximately 1700 SAGD well pairs, illustrates how operators have achieved success by reducing steam/oil ratios, maintaining or increasing bitumen production rates, achieved recovery factors exceeding 60%, and why economic production continues several years longer than originally predicted.  Each recovery mechanism is unique contributing to overall production from different portions of the reservoir, accessing bitumen from a larger heated volume created by multiple amalgamated steam chambers of contiguous well pairs on SAGD pads.

ReSource Mini Course: Bring the Heat-Geothermal 101 for the Oil Patch

Geothermal means “Earth Heat”. Briny fluids kilometres below the Earth’s surface are stored in aquifers and reservoirs. When we bring these hot fluids to the surface, we produce geothermal heat. In Alberta and BC's Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB), we produce geothermal energy every day from our oil and gas wells. Hot water, which is produced alongside hydrocarbons, is considered a waste product that is re-injected into the subsurface or trucked away. What if we could make waste water profitable?

ReSource Mini Course: Pushing oil out of the rockies - How thrust belts displace oil

Alberta has tremendous oil reservoirs, but have you ever wondered how the Rocky Mountains have impacted the formation and location of this oil?  When the mountain ranges formed, they put pressure on organic material, turned it into oil and thrust it out onto the prairies.  Complex fracture systems are the pathways for the oil to move long distances from the source rock.
Paul MacKay has focused his research and exploration career to unlocking this potential from the Rocky Mountains and other similar formation around the world.  In this presentation, Paul will explain in simple terms with examples of how these fracture systems work and the application to oil & gas exploration
